What AI assistants can do in Zornov

An overview of the tools Zornov gives AI assistants, from opening and editing a project to looking at frames, checking the work and exporting.

An AI assistant connected to Zornov can edit your project and look at, listen to and read the work as it goes. The tools below are grouped by what they're for, so you know what to ask for.

You don't need to name tools when you talk to an assistant: say what you want, and it picks them. The names are here so you can recognise them when the assistant reports what it did.

How an assistant gets started

When it connects, an assistant is told to read Zornov's guide first. The guide maps everything Zornov can do, department by department. For each kind of work (titles, colour grading, sound design, 3D scenes and so on) there's also a skill the assistant can load with skill: the procedure, the checks and the common mistakes. capabilities answers "can Zornov do this, and how?" before it settles for a workaround.

Edit

Almost every change goes through one tool, edit. One edit call holds a list of operations and is applied as a single undo step, all or nothing. Its operations cover:

  • Cutting and arranging: placing clips, splitting, trimming, moving, reordering, rolling and slipping edits, film editing from takes.
  • Building a beat: scene makes a spoken beat with pictures, a title and sound in one go; narrate speaks a line.
  • Titles and graphics: text and 3D lettering, lower thirds and end cards, charts, shapes and colour cards.
  • Motion: keyframes and curves, motion presets, transitions, physics, particles.
  • Look: effects, looks, masks, matching colour between shots.
  • VFX: keying, cut-outs, rotoscoping, tracking, stabilising.
  • Sound and music: original music composed to fit the cut, sound effects, foley, EQ, fades and ducking.
  • 3D and characters: models, cameras, lights, atmosphere, puppets, rigs, poses and walks.

Other tools cover specialist work: colour (grading, colour spaces, LUTs), picture (painting and retouching stills), vector (logos, icons and illustrations), enhance (restore, denoise, upscale), viewport (the 3D workspace), mix, loudness, stems, dialogue, adr, subtitles and dub (the sound department).

Look, listen and read

ToolWhat it does
seeDescribes each shot in words: light, colour, faces, where the subject sits, camera motion, sharpness, lettering
frameA picture of one moment of the timeline, or of a media file
contact_sheetMany moments tiled into one picture
listenHears a song, a sound or the whole mix: sections, beats, loudness, faults, and how well music sits under a voice
analyseFinds shot changes, pauses and beats in footage
objectsNames what's in footage and pictures, and where and when it appears
scopesVideo scopes as numbers, for matching shots
summary, scriptThe timeline as data, or read like an edit decision list
inspectEverything about one clip
notesThe assistant's notebook, kept with the project: the brief, the plan, what's left

Check and review

ToolWhat it does
checkFinds what a professional wouldn't ship: gaps, titles off the canvas or over faces, clipping and loudness problems, black frames. Each problem comes with a time, a clip and a fix
reviewWatches the whole film as a viewer would, for what makes it feel lifeless even when check finds nothing: shots all the same length, cuts mid-sentence, places with no sound of their own
qcQuality control on a finished file: levels, flashes, frozen frames, loudness, missing captions

Export and deliver

ToolWhat it does
exportRender a file from a preset, such as Social 1080p, 4K master, Vertical, GIF or a ProRes master
deliverRender to a platform's spec (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, broadcast and more) and check it
bundleA folder of deliverables: master, proxy, mix, stems, captions, thumbnails
cutdownA shorter version (15, 30 or 60 seconds) as a project of its own, leaving yours unchanged
queueBackground renders

Plan, collaborate and remember

ToolWhat it does
storyThe production plan kept in the project: script, scenes, cast and shots
productionBreakdown, schedule, budget and tasks
commentsReview notes pinned to a time or a clip, with replies
teamWho works on the project, and their roles
tasteWhat you like and dislike, remembered across requests and projects
planThe plan you follow while it works, with checkpoints
layoutOpen, close and arrange the editor window's panels (only when working in the window)

What it can't do

Pictures made from words come from Codex's image generation, so they need Codex. Video, music and sound effects made from words aren't available; the assistant uses Zornov's library music, composed music, made-to-measure sound effects and camera moves instead.
